Sypress Bark Project
The layout of the first photo is an exhibition I participated previously held at Karimoku Commons Tokyo.
Presented the research outcomes of “WOOD – New Encyclopedia,” a project undertaken in the Woodworking Department at Musashino Art University to explore new possibilities for Hinoki (Japanese cypress).
I explored a range of colours derived from dyes extracted from Hinoki bark. In Japan, where skilled craftsmen known as "Motokawashi" remove the outer bark of Hinoki trees, bark is traditionally used for applications such as "Hiwadabuki" roofing. This project sheds light on the underutilized bark generated through this process by exploring its potential as a dyeing material.
